Archery is the fastest growing sport in the world and, in just the second year of SHDHS offering it as an organized sport, our team made it to the state tournament!
Mrs. Shawn Schwarz found out how popular the sport was among SHDHS students when she began teaching archery in her Health and PE classes. She enlisted the help of Larry Burkhart to help teach the freshman students proper techniques. Even Athletic Trainer, Mike Bowling, got in on the fun.
Larry is a world class archer and serves as a referee at Kentucky state archery tournaments. He helped start archery programs in several Northern Kentucky schools, including SHDHS, and he also volunteers his time with our archery team. Larry has a history with St. Henry. His wife, Dian, is a Class of 1967 graduate, his daughter and son-in-law, Kelly (Burkhart) and Matt Eilers are both SHDHS Class of 1992 grads, and now his grandson, Brendan Eilers, is on the SHDHS archery team.
Having so many Crusaders with their eye on the bullseye, and the expert guidance of coaches, like Larry, the archery program at SHDHS is sure to be on target for many seasons to come.
