The Crusader volleyball team is celebrating an exciting and impressive season that took them all the way to the state tournament.
The team made it to the quarterfinals of the state tournament on Saturday, November 4. After beating Corbin in the opening round of the tournament on Friday, the Crusaders fell to Assumption, the best team in both the state and the nation, on Saturday. Crusader, Maria Tobergte, was named to the 2017 KHSAA state all-tournament team. Tobergte was also named the 9th Region Player of the Year and was recognized at the tournament.
While they might not have come home with a trophy, the team left the tournament with a stronger bond, countless memories, and pride in knowing they played their best and got SHDHS back to the state tournament for the first time since 2010.
The trip to the state tournament came after one of the Crusaders’ most memorable victories this season when they beat the Notre Dame Pandas in a thrilling five-game set at the District finals at Holmes High School on October 26. St. Henry won the last game, 20-18, on a block at the net by sophomore middle hitter Zoe Epplen to claim the regional title.
In addition to being District champs, the Crusaders also won the Regional tournament finished their season with a record of 32-10. Well done, ladies. Very well done.
