SHDHS Junior Chefs, Sarah Banks & Maia Menzer, showed off their cooking skills to the Tri-State on Wednesday morning. The pair appeared on the Fox 19 morning show and demonstrated the abilities that took them to the state competition. Click here to see the ladies in action.

Sarah and Maia made it to the Elite 8 round of the state Jr. Chef Competition at the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville in August. What made the accomplishment even more impressive is that it was the ladies’ first try!

The pair is part of the Crusader Culinary Club which was created in September 2016. They won first place at the Region 9 competition in May 2017, their first ever competition. Sarah and Maia were sponsored by the Diocese of Covington School Lunch Program.

On Tuesday, August 21, 2017 they competed again 15 other schools at the state level at the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville. The competition is sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture Farm to School Program. The goal is for students to create recipes that can be duplicated and served in school lunchrooms. The ladies’ winning BBQ Chicken Flatbread was served at SHDHS last year.
