What’s cuter than tiny babies? Tiny babies wearing super hero capes!
Just in time for Halloween, the SHDHS Art Club is making super hero capes for premie babies in the NICU at St. Elizabeth Hospital. The capes, which are made from felt, range from Captain America shields, to Batman capes, to butterfly wings.
Club moderator, Katie Baker, found out about the opportunity through Carolyn Boudot, the mom of one of her students. Carolyn works at St. E’s and approached Katie with the idea. Katie said she’s been looking for community outreach opportunities for the club and when this project came knocking she couldn’t pass it up.
“Not only does it get my students’ names out there and our school’s name out there, it is also for a really good cause” said Kaite. “I think it has the students really excited knowing they are doing something really awesome for these innocent fighters.”
Katie said she wanted her students to see how meaningful their art can be to someone else, and that such a small gesture can help provide a family with a little more strength and happiness as they wait for their babies to be strong enough to go home.
Art Club members will deliver the capes to the babies on Wednesday, October 25.
